Restlessly, weary and unknowing…

Restlessly, weary and unknowing,
Ceaselessly, the carnal mind thrashes about,
Irresistibly, the Lord of peace in dwells,
In the still and arid darkness, the soul waits.
In the still and arid emptiness, comfort abates.

Memories, like ghosts siren their haunted imaginings,
Desire, that slavemaster of old shouts its woos and demands,
Pride, asserts its deceit, the illusory false self,
And louder than all others, fear wimpers withdrawingly,
A deadly symphony, like a tempest upon a desert plain, the din,
Frightful and loud, the voices from behind and within.

In the still and arid darkness, the soul waits.
In the still and arid emptiness, comfort abates.

At the empty edge, the boundaries of purgation,
The soul strains and gazes into the howling hollow abyss,
O darkness of night, clouded mystery of unknowing,
The terrors and masters of the past reach and claw at ones back,
But from across your dark and terrible emptiness, a Voice,
To guide this servant’s feet along the straightening way,
Inward, onward, toward the Lord of peace, where noise and din allay.

In the still and arid darkness, the soul waits.
In the still and arid emptiness, comfort abates.

O Lord my God, the one True Voice,
Forgive your servant, O Lord,
The stench of his filth, he is wretched.
Into Your waters bring him, he begs, and wash it all away,
Though greatly he fears there may be nothing left.
Into your hands he places his outcome, You are true Light,
At the sound of your voice, all terrors take flight!

In the still and arid darkness, the soul waits.
In the still and arid emptiness, comfort abates.

  1. AB says:

“Blessed are those whose lawless deeds have been forgiven, And whose sins have been covered. “Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account.” Romans 4: 7-8
This is an important truth. I know that it is hard to get past the memories, the old desires, pride (especially) and fear; to pay attention to the voice of the Holy Spirit, rather than the voices of behind and within. The evil one wants to keep you in the old state. But, you have become new, sanctified through Christ. I pray that you come to accept this, sooner, rather than later and take hold of the freedom that is in Christ Jesus.
Freedom from the pain and the guilt that tramples us into the dust and attempts to keep us from using the gifts God has given us to work for His kingdom through the church, His body. I see the beauty in your calling out to the Lord, but truly, the forgiveness that you seek has already been provided. Love you.

Jesus to Paul on the road to Damascus concerning the Gentiles:
“… that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.’ Acts 26:18

    Praise God!
